Danielle Spencer
Danielle Spencer is an author, privacy rights advocate, and U.S. Federal Government whistleblower with over 20 years of senior leadership experience in business, finance, and acquisition management. While serving at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), she raised concerns to senior IRS officials about conduct by her second-line managers that she believed to be illegal and unethical. In November 2017, she filed a formal retaliation complaint with the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA)—a turning point she believes marked a sharp escalation in the retaliatory actions taken against her.
What She Saw
After coming forward as a whistleblower, Danielle Spencer believes she faced a series of alarming and retaliatory events, including, just to name a few:
A downgraded performance review
The unexplained disappearance of her 2017 retaliation complaint filed with TIGTA
Interference with future job opportunities
Unwarranted scrutiny of her tax records
Alteration, suppression, and deletion of government documents and records
Failure of government officials to follow the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) process
Serious privacy violations, including:
The IRS obtaining her security adjudication files under false pretenses
The IRS contacting a private vendor to verify her college records almost 18 months after her employment with the IRS ended
The federal government misusing the security clearance process to dig into her personal life—questioning references about her sexual behavior, potential illegitimate children, and whether she had family members susceptible to bribery
